Questions and answers
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. We'll visit your home or property, talk through your project and give you a written estimate at no charge.
What area do you serve?
We serve homeowners and businesses within 60 miles of Lakeville and Farmington, from the south metro and Twin Cities to Northfield, Hastings, Red Wing, and River Falls and Hudson, WI. See our service area page for the full list of towns.
Do you handle permits?
Yes. Most roofing, siding, window, deck, basement, addition and remodeling projects in Minnesota need a building permit, and many need separate electrical, plumbing or mechanical permits. We apply for the permits your city requires and schedule the inspections.
Can you work in the winter?
Yes. Interior projects like kitchens, bathrooms, basements, flooring and carpentry can be done year-round. Windows, doors, siding and emergency repairs can be done most of the winter. Full roof replacements, concrete and masonry depend on temperatures, so we schedule those around the weather.
When should I book an exterior or outdoor project?
Spring and summer are the busiest seasons for roofing, decks, concrete and additions. Planning and permitting over the winter puts you in a good spot to start as soon as the weather allows.
Who will I work with during my project?
Bischel Building is family owned, and as a general contractor we coordinate every trade on your job, so you have one point of contact from the first visit to the final walkthrough. Licensed trades handle electrical and plumbing work, as Minnesota requires.
What should I do right after a storm damages my home?
Stay safe, take photos of the damage, and prevent further damage with temporary fixes if you can do so safely, keeping your receipts. Then call us for a free inspection. See our storm damage page for more.
Can you help with my insurance claim?
We inspect and document the damage, give you an itemized estimate, can meet your adjuster to discuss the repair scope, and complete the repairs. You file and manage the claim with your insurance company. Minnesota law doesn't allow contractors to interpret your policy, advise on coverage or negotiate your claim unless they're a licensed public adjuster. Learn more on our insurance restoration page.
Will you pay or waive my insurance deductible?
No. Minnesota law (Minn. Stat. 325E.66) prohibits contractors from paying, waiving or rebating any part of a deductible or offering anything of value in exchange for a claim, inspection or referral. Be cautious of any contractor who offers to.
What happens if my insurance company denies my claim?
Your insurer or agent can explain their decision, and you can contact a licensed public adjuster if you want representation. If you signed a roofing contract for insurance-paid work, Minnesota law lets you cancel it in writing within 72 hours after your insurer notifies you of a denial. We're also glad to give you an estimate to pay for repairs directly.
What are your payment terms?
Payment terms are spelled out in your written estimate and contract.
Do you offer a warranty?
We install products backed by manufacturer warranties, and the warranty details for your project are spelled out in your written contract.
Are you licensed?
Bischel Building is a licensed Minnesota contractor (License BC634092). You can verify any contractor's license on the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry website.
Do you work on commercial buildings?
Yes, of any size. We manage commercial construction, design-build, construction management and owner's representation, site work, and exterior repairs and maintenance for businesses, HOAs and property managers, with the work performed by trusted subcontractors. See commercial construction.
