These parts of your roofline don't get much attention, but they protect your roof from rot, keep your attic cold and dry in winter, and help prevent ice dams.
We can do this work on its own, or as part of a roof, siding or gutter project.
Soffit replacement
Soffit is the panel under the overhang of your roof. Vented soffit is also where most attics take in fresh air. Over time, wood soffit rots, paint peels, and animals find their way in through gaps. We replace damaged soffit with low-maintenance vented panels, make sure the vents aren't blocked by insulation inside the attic, and seal openings that let in birds, bats and squirrels.
Fascia replacement and wrapping
Fascia is the board along the edge of the roof that your gutters hang from. When water gets behind a gutter, fascia rots and the gutter starts to pull away. We replace rotted boards and can wrap fascia in aluminum so it doesn't need painting again. If your gutters are due too, we'll coordinate the job with new seamless gutters.
Attic ventilation
A healthy attic has balanced ventilation: cool air comes in low at the soffits and warm, moist air leaves high through ridge vents or roof vents. When that balance is off, attics trap heat in summer and moisture in winter, which shortens the life of your shingles and can lead to frost, mold and ice dams. We look at your intake and exhaust, check for blocked soffit vents and bathroom fans that vent into the attic, and recommend changes that fit your roof. Minnesota's building code sets ventilation requirements for new roofs, and we follow them.
Ice dam prevention
Ice dams are a heat problem more than a roof problem. Warm air leaking from the house into the attic melts snow on the roof, and the water freezes again at the cold eaves. The long-term fix usually combines air sealing the attic floor, adding insulation, balancing ventilation, and installing ice and water protection at the eaves when the roof is replaced. We repair the damage ice dams leave behind, inside and out, and help keep them from coming back. Our guide to ice dams in Minnesota covers what homeowners can do in the meantime.
Skylights and solar tubes
A skylight or solar tube brings daylight into a dark hallway, bathroom or kitchen. Solar tubes are a smaller, simpler way to add light where a full skylight won't fit. We install new skylights and solar tubes, replace old or leaking skylights, and flash them properly so they stay dry through Minnesota snow and rain. Replacing an older skylight during a roof replacement is often the best timing.
Why one contractor for the whole roofline
Soffit, fascia, gutters, shingles and attic ventilation all work together. When different companies handle each piece, problems fall through the cracks. As a family-owned general contractor based at 100 8th St in Farmington, we handle the roof, siding, gutters and the interior repairs, so one team is responsible for how it all fits.

Frequently asked questions
What causes ice dams?
Heat escaping from your living space into the attic warms the roof deck and melts snow. The water runs down to the cold eaves and freezes, building a ridge of ice that traps more water behind it. Air sealing, insulation and ventilation are the best long-term fix.
Do I need more attic ventilation?
Signs include frost on the underside of the roof in winter, a very hot attic in summer, ice dams, curling shingles and peeling paint near the eaves. We can look at your attic and tell you whether your ventilation is balanced.
Can soffit be replaced without a new roof?
Yes. Soffit and fascia can be replaced on their own. If your roof or gutters are close to replacement anyway, doing the work at the same time can save labor.
Do skylights leak?
A properly installed and flashed skylight shouldn't. Most skylight leaks come from failed flashing or old seals. We can repair the flashing or replace the unit.
What's the difference between a skylight and a solar tube?
A skylight is a window in the roof that lets in light and a view of the sky, and some can open for ventilation. A solar tube is a smaller reflective tube that carries daylight through the attic to a ceiling fixture, which makes it a good fit for hallways, closets and small bathrooms.
