New siding is one of the best ways to upgrade your home's exterior and protect it from Minnesota weather, and there are many materials to choose from.
We'll go over all of your options, help you choose the right material for your home and budget, and get the job done quickly and cleanly.
Types of siding we install
Vinyl
Vinyl is the traditional choice for countless homeowners because it comes in many colors and is durable and cost-effective. Insulated vinyl adds a layer of foam backing for more protection from extreme heat and cold, and it makes the panels stiffer and straighter on the wall.
Fiber cement
Fiber cement is made from cement, sand and wood fibers. It's very sturdy, resists rot, insects and fire, and is easy to maintain. It can be shaped to look like wood lap siding, shingles or panels, and it comes pre-finished or ready to paint.
Engineered wood
Engineered wood siding gives you the classic look of wood without the cost. Made from wood fibers and exterior-grade resins, it performs much like wood and comes in a variety of styles and textures. Many products come with long manufacturer warranties; we'll go over the details for the product you choose.
Wood
Nothing beats the classic look of real wood siding. With the right stain or paint, wood can last for decades. It does need periodic refinishing to keep its look and protect it from moisture.
Stucco
Stucco is durable and has a long history on Minnesota homes. Installed and detailed correctly, with proper drainage behind it, it can last a very long time. See our stucco, brick and stone page for stucco repair and replacement.
Synthetic and manufactured stone
When you want the look of real stone without the cost or weight, manufactured stone veneer is a great alternative. It's often used as an accent on lower walls, entries and columns, together with lap siding.
Siding brands we install include Royal Building Products, CertainTeed, Edco, LP SmartSide and James Hardie, among others.

Signs it's time for new siding
- Cracked, warped, loose or missing panels, often after hail or high winds
- Rot, soft spots or peeling paint that keeps coming back
- Faded siding that makes the whole house look tired
- Drafts, rising heating bills or ice buildup along walls
- Moisture stains, mold or peeling paint on interior walls
Hail can crack vinyl and dent metal trim on one side of a house while the rest looks fine. If a storm just went through, see our storm damage restoration page.
What's behind the siding matters
Siding is your home's rain jacket, but the real protection is the layer underneath. When we replace siding, we install house wrap to block wind and water, flash windows, doors and other openings, and integrate everything so water drains down and out instead of into your walls. Lakeville and many other cities require a re-siding permit and an inspection of the house wrap, and we handle that. If we find rotted sheathing, we'll show you and fix it before new siding goes on.

Pair siding with other exterior updates
Siding is a natural time to replace old windows and doors, since the openings are already exposed and can be flashed correctly. It's also a good time to update soffit, fascia and gutters, or to add a stone accent. If your roof is due too, doing both together gives you a matched, finished look. One contractor, one schedule.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a permit to replace siding?
Many Minnesota cities, including Lakeville, Burnsville and Bloomington, require a permit for re-siding, often with an inspection of the house wrap. We handle the permit and inspections.
Can siding be installed in winter?
Yes, with care. Vinyl becomes more brittle in the cold and needs extra attention when cutting and fastening, but most siding can be installed through much of the year. We'll plan the schedule with you.
Which siding is best for Minnesota?
Insulated vinyl, fiber cement and engineered wood all perform well here. The best choice depends on your budget, the look you want and how much maintenance you're willing to do. We'll walk you through it.
Can you match my existing siding for a repair?
Often, if the product is still available. If an exact match isn't available, we'll show you options, like using matching panels from a less visible wall or residing one full side.
Will new siding lower my energy bills?
New siding with proper house wrap, especially insulated siding, can reduce drafts and help your home feel more comfortable. Results depend on your home's insulation and air sealing.
